About the Author

Rick Leinecker is a software developer and an instructor at Rockingham Community College. Among his recently published books are The Visual C++ 5 Power Toolkit, The Visual C++ 6 Bible, The Visual J++ Bible, and The Windows 98 Programming Bible.

You’ll find many of his software titles on the retail shelves including Championship Chess, Bicycle Spades and Hearts, and Trump Castle. In addition to games, he writes imaging software, including an add-on library called ImageObject for Visual C++, Visual Basic, and Visual J++.

You can check out Rick’s Web site at www.infinitevision.net or send him email at ivt-rcl@interapth.com.

When Rick isn’t writing books and software or teaching, he’s making music. He sings in several groups, plays guitar and horn, and sometimes acts as musical director for the Rockingham County Theater Guild.

Acknowlegements

I’ve enjoyed working with the staff at Macmillan Computer Publishing. They’ve all been quite professional. They’re also real people who are easy to work with, and made my job as an author much easier. Not all editors are this way. (I nicknamed a previous editor at another company “Atilla the Hun.”) I appreciate the staff at Macmillan. Jon Steever was at the development helm, and he deserves applause for a job well done.

Marcy Pyrtle deserves the most credit for getting me through this project. She took my tape recorded babblings, and converted them into prose that made sense. Thanks for the help! Musicians can do more than play and sing. They can be downright smart when they need to be.

Lastly, I want to thank my family for letting me put activities off as they constantly heard “just let me finish this section I’m working on.” Three children who want to swim and inline skate during the summer, who are as understanding as they were, deserve a pat on the back. Maybe next summer I won’t be writing a book.
