CD-ROM Notes for STY Database Programming with VB 6 in 21 Days ============================================================== 1. Manual Installation 2. CD-ROM Contents 3. Visual Basic Knowledgebase 4. Source Code Installation Manual Installation ------------------- If you are running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4 and Autoplay is disabled, you need to launch the installation program manually. The installation program is called SETUP.EXE, and it is in the root directory of the CD-ROM. Simply double-click SETUP.EXE to launch. This program will create a Program Group. This group contains links to setup programs on the CD-ROM for the source code and third-party utilities that we've included for your evaluation. To install any of these components, select the name of the component you want to install from the Program Group and follow the on-screen instructions. CD-ROM Contents --------------- If you choose not to install using the Program Group, you may launch each setup program individually from Windows Explorer. The following diagram should help you find the files you need: \ +---3RDPARTY | +---ADOBE Adobe's Acrobat Reader 3.01 | +---Advantage Advantageware's VB Advantage Evaluation | +---APEX APEX's True DBGrid 5.0 Evaluation | +---DART DART Communication's PowerTCP Toolkit | +---Data Dynamics Software from Data Dynamics | | +---ActiveBar ActiveBar Version 1.0 Demo | | +---ActiveReports ActiveReports Version 1.0 Evaluation | | \---DynamiCube DynamiCube ActiveX Demo Version 2.0 | +---Desaware Software from Desaware Inc. | | +---GMAUFRY Gallimaufry ActiveX Demo Controls | | +---SPYWORKS SpyWorks 5.0 Demo control | | +---STOOLS StorageTools 1.0 Demo control | | \---VSTAMPER VersionStamper 5.0 Demo Control | +---EARTHLNK EarthLink Network's TotalAccess Software | | +---WIN31 for Windows 3.1 | | \---WIN95 for Windows 95 (doesn't work with NT) | +---ESRI Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. software | | +---MapObjects MapObjects Professional 90 Day Evaluation | | \---MapObjects LT MapObjects LT 90 Day Evaluation | +---FarPoint Technologies FarPoint Technologies Software | | +---ButtonMaker ButtonMaker 30 Day Trial | | +---Calendar ObjX Calendar ObjX 30 Day Trial | | +---Daily PlanIt Daily PlanIt 30 Day Trial | | +---Input Pro Input Pro 30 Day Trial | | +---List Pro List Pro 30 Day Trial | | +---Spread Spread 30 Day Trial | | \---Tab Pro Tab Pro 30 Day Trial | +---HEXATECH Software from HexaTech | | +---AceToolbar AceToolbar Evaluation | | +---ViewPro ViewPro Evaluation | | \---XRosyGUI XRosyGUI Demo | +---MCP Visual Basic Knowledgebase in HTML format | |---MICROSFT Software from Microsoft Corporation | | \---Explorer Internet Explorer 4 | +---NETSCAPE Netscape Communications Corp's Communicator 4.04 | +---NICOMAK Nico Mak Computing, Inc.'s WinZip 6.3 | \---SHERIDAN Sheridan Software System's Inc. Visual Basic Knowledgebase -------------------------- We've provided a knowledgebase for your perusal in HTML format. This knowledgebase can be viewed by launching a browser and opening the file INDEX.HTM in the appropriate directory. If you don't have a frames-enabled browser already set up on your computer, you can install Microsoft's Internet Explorer from the CD-ROM. Source Code Installation ------------------------ The source code install program will copy all of the source code from the CD-ROM to your hard drive. If you are just interested in the code from a particular chapter or two, go to the SOURCE directory on the CD-ROM and copy what you need to your hard drive. If you copy the source code to your hard drive, copy it to a directory named \TYSDBVB6\SOURCE, otherwise you will need to modify the code to work in the new location. Don't forget to turn off the read-only attribute on the file(s) you copy.
