Using the CD-ROM

The CD-ROM that comes with this book contains a collection of Visual C++ database applications and the databases that are used in conjunction with the applications. Most of the databases are in Access 95 .MDB format, although examples of database files in Access 2, dBASE, Paradox, and Btrieve formats are provided so that you can experiment with Visual C++ applications that use these database file formats.

CAUTION

The author's sample programs utilize long filenames. In order to maintain these long filenames, the sample programs and databases have been compressed and will need to be installed to your hard disk. The CD-ROM browser will easily allow you to install these files with a simple click of the install button found in the Author's Sample Programs section.

After you install the code to your hard disk, you will find the code organized by chapters under the \DDGVC4 directory. Not every chapter has a sample application. Therefore, the numbering of the subdirectories isn't consecutive in all cases. Each chapter that has a sample application mentions which files are included in the ...\CHAPTR## directory for that chapter.
