Installing the CD-ROM
The companion CD-ROM contains the author's sample databases, plus an assortment of useful third-party tools and product demos. The disc is designed to be explored using a browser program. Using Sams' Guide to the CD-ROM browser, you can view
information concerning products and companies as well as install programs with a single click of the mouse. To install the browser, here's what to do:
Windows 3.1/NT Installation Instructions
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into your CD-ROM drive.
- From File Manager or Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
- Type <drive>\setup and press Enter, where <drive> corresponds to the drive letter of your CD-ROM. For example, if your CD-ROM is drive D:, type D:\SETUP and press Enter.
- Installation creates a program manager group named DDG with Visual Basic 4. To browse the CD-ROM, double-click the Guide to the CD-ROM icon in this Program Manager group.
Windows 95 Installation Instructions
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into your CD-ROM drive. If the AutoPlay feature of your Windows 95 system is enabled, the setup program will start automatically.
- If the setup program does not start automatically, double-click the My Computer icon.
- Double-click the icon representing your CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click the icon titled Setup.exe to run the installation program. Follow the onscreen instructions that appear. When setup ends, double-click the Guide to the CD-ROM icon to begin browsing the disc.
Following installation, you can restart the Guide to the CD-ROM program by pressing the Start button, selecting Programs, then DDG with Visual Basic 4 and Guide to the CD-ROM.
The Guide to the CD-ROM program requires at least 256 colors. For best results, set your monitor to display between 256 and 64,000 colors. A screen resolution of 640 by 480 pixels is also recommended. If necessary, adjust your monitor settings
before using the CD-ROM.
