ZoomSmart scaling settings in the Paper Sizes properties page may be active. If so, the scaling effect could generate an error message telling you that the scaled paper size is too large for your printer and that scaling will be disabled. However, in some extreme cases this error message will be repeated several times. After the final error message your drawing will be printed according to the Page Setup settings and with the Scaling setting disabled. Internet Links from the Driver's Help File The driver's help file contains some useful links for users with access to the Internet. If you use Windows 3.1, you will see the message "Unable to run the specified file" if you attempt the links. Under Windows 95/98, you can normally link from the help file to these Internet pages. However, even if you cannot link automatically to these pages, they can still provide you with useful information. The pages are: HP Home Page http://www.hp.com/ HP DesignJet Home Page http://www.hp.com/go/designjet HP DesignJet Online hpp://www.designjet-online.hp.com Internet Imaging http://www.image.hp.com/ Timeout for Complex Print Jobs (Windows 95/98 Only) Complex print jobs may experience timeout problems. Under such circumstances, only a portion of the drawing will be properly printed, and the device will request more media. To solve the problem, increase the IN JOB TIMEOUT setting available through the printer's front panel IO MENU. For really complex drawings you may also need to change the printer spool settings. Under Windows 95/98, proceed as follows: Start -> Settings -> Printers -> Properties -> Details -> Spool Settings -> Check "Start printing after last page is spooled" INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT: No other applications should be running when you install this driver. We recommend restarting your computer before installing a driver. Your operating system should be running, but no other applications. Standard Installation for Windows 95/98 Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and follow the instructions that appear on your screen. If no instructions appear on your screen, run the setup.exe program on the CD-ROM. Manual Installation for Windows 95/98 If you cannot or prefer not to use the standard installation process, you can install the driver from the CD-ROM by following these steps: 1. If the output you send to the printer will go directly to the printer by network without being stored on another computer, you must create a network port before installing the driver (consult your network documentation or network administrator). 2. Click Start, Settings, and then Printers to open the Printers dialog box. 3. Double-click the Add Printer icon to open the Add Printer Wizard dialog box. (We recommend that you do not use the New Driver button in the Printer Properties dialog box to install or upgrade this driver.) 4. Follow the steps displayed on your screen. Below are some questions that you may be requested to answer, depending on your system configuration. "How is this printer attached to your computer?" Select: * "Local printer" if the output you send to the printer will go directly to the printer by cable or network without being stored on another computer. * "Network printer" if you will send output to the printer via another computer. In this case, all settings for the printer are managed by a printer server that has been set up by an administrator. Click Have Disk... In the Install From Disk dialog box, enter the location of the driver on the CD-ROM (the same folder as this ReadMe file) and click OK. Select your HP DesignJet printer from the list and click Next. "Would you like to keep the existing driver or use the new one?" Select "Replace existing driver". If you are installing files for a new version and you see this question, we recommend replacing the existing driver. "Do you print from MS-DOS-based programs?" We recommend that you select No. Select Yes only in the case where you have an MS-DOS driver that can print to a HP DesignJet series printer. HP DesignJet Toolbox for Windows 95/98 If your computer is directly connected by a parallel cable to an HP DesignJet 430, 450C, 455CA, 1050C, or 1055CM printer, you can install the Toolbox to obtain printer status information. If your computer is connected over the network (without going through a printer server) to an HP DesignJet 1050C or 1055CM printer, you can also install the Toolbox. You need to have an HP JetDirect Port created for your printer. To install the Toolbox for either type of connection, you must first install the HP-GL/2 driver. Then run the following program from the CD: E:\toolbox\\\Disk1\hplsetup.exe where E is the letter of the CD-ROM drive (often D or E), is the language of your system, and is your Operating System version. Standard Installation for Windows 3.1 and 3.11 1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Using the File Manager, go to the location of the driver on the CD-ROM (the same directory as this ReadMe file). 3. Double-click the file INSTALL.EXE. 4. Select the desired configuration in the Installation dialog box and click OK. Manual Installation for Windows 3.1 and 3.11 1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Open the Program Manager. 3. In the Program Manager, select Main. 4. In Main, select Control Panel. 5. In Control Panel, select Printers. 6. In the Printers dialog box, click Add Printer >>. 7. In the List of Printers list box, double-click the Unlisted Printer entry. 8. In the "Add unlisted printer" dialog box, double-click the directory where the driver is located in the Directories list box. 9. Double-click the model name of the printer you want to install in the Printer model list box. 10. Click Use Print Manager. 11. In the Printers dialog box, click Connect. 12. In the Printers - Connect dialog box, click the desired port. 13. In the Printers - Connect dialog box, change both the Device Not Selected and Transmission Retry time-outs to 900 and click Fast Printing Direct to Port. Click OK. 14. Double-click the desired installed printer so it appears in the Default Printer box. Click Close. Standard Installation from DOS (Windows Not Running) 1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Type win e:\hpgl2\\win31\install where e is the letter of your CD-ROM drive and is the language of your system, expressed in English and abbreviated to two letters: "en", "fr", "ge", "it", "ja", "ko", "sc", "sp", "tc". 3. Select the desired configuration in the Installation dialog box and click OK. Windows 3.1 and 3.11 Installation Note If you experience problems with the recommended procedure for installing the driver (running the INSTALL program from the Program Manager), try using the alternative method (go to Control Panel, Printers and click Add).
